Blue team wins 28th annual Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses

Two fallen heroes honored

ST. LOUIS – (Jan. 31, 2015): After a two-month delay and more than four hours of boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the blue team won a 9-7 team decision over the red team in the 28th annual Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses Friday night, Jan. 30 at the Scottrade Center.

The red team won four of the first six matches to take a 4-2 lead before the blue team evened it after eight bouts. The blue team then won five of the next 8 fights to seal the victory. This year, for the first time, teams had a mixture of firefighters and police officers on each team.

Proceeds from Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses benefit The BackStoppers, an organization that assists the families of police officers, firefighters and emergency medical responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Funds generated will increase the $4.5 million the event has raised for The BackStoppers through 2014. The amount raised Friday night is expected to be announced in late February.

Prior to the fights, one firefighter and one police officer were honored. Lt. Clarence O. Watson II, of the Hematite Fire Protection District, died of cardiac arrest after having been on several emergency calls within 12 hours of his passing. Chief Richard Hughes of the Louisiana Police Department died of a heart following several patrol calls during his shift. He had been serving as police chief since 2009.

Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses is presented by the St. Louis Guns 'N Hoses Boxing Association and the title sponsors for the 28th year were Grey Eagle Distributors, the St. Louis County Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, and the brewery's Budweiser brand.
